Welcome to Northwest Sparks, where I will be reporting on the project to electrify a number of railway lines in Lancashire. The routes involved are:
On this site you will find news, details of the routes, information about engineering works, reports on the train service and information about the new trains. Reporting may be somewhat biassed towards the Liverpool end of the network, for the simple reason that I am based here. Schedule
The planned completion dates for the project are as follows:
Manchester to Newton-le-Willows - End 2013. Liverpool to Earlestown and Liverpool to Wigan - End 2014. Preston to Blackpool - End 2015. Manchester to Preston - End 2016.
